The four-year trend of the water-table level is down, down, down. The graph below shows that the four-year trend of the water-table level in the observation well located west of State College is downward, in spite of more than 60 feet of water-table rise in 1998. The very limited winter season recharge during the winters of 1998-1999 and 1999-2000 is apparent when compared to the normal winter recharge during the winter of 1997-1998. Unfortunately, the winter of 2000-2001 to date is following the pattern in the previous two winters of very limited ground-water recharge. The rains on the snow pack at the end of January 2001 caused runoff to the streams and one foot of water-table rise due to ground-water recharge.Return to the 2001 Water-Levels Page.
